Cyprus Events 2012

On Wednesday 15th June there will be a great event for Cyprus astronomers as there will be a total eclipse of the moon that will be visible from Cyprus. This lunar event will commence around 10pm, and will continue until around 2am on Thursday morning.

 This will be quite a rare eclipse because the moon will pass in front of the centre of the earth’s shadow, making it one of the  darkest eclipses ever. The last lunar eclipse that was so close to the centre of the earth’s shadow was on 16th July 2000, with the next eclipse that will come so central to the earth’s shadow not occurring again until 27th July 2008.

The weather in Cyprus is now relatively warm at night, so why not make an event of this rare total lunar eclipse. Get out into the garden and fire up the bbq, oh and don’t forget some candles because the Cyprus sky is going to be very dark tonight!
