Summer Festival in Limassol
From Saturday 24th July through to Saturday 31st July, Limassol old town is the place to be if you love contemporary dance. During these dates dancers take to the streets, the beach, and other interesting and unusual locations such as abandoned buildings to perform dance routines.
Known as the Summer Festival in Limassol, this is the 7th year running that the New Movement of Dance Groups, Dancers and Choreographers have organised this event, showing that it has become increasingly popular with the usual contemporary performance followers, as well as unassuming audiences who happen to walk in on the works. The festival was originally performed around the Limassol Medieval Castle, where five companies took part in a contemporary dance event, however it has now spread to the Limassol downtown area.
The festival brings a buzz to the old town, and serves as an unusual yet exciting walking tour of the town, highlighting places that people may not notice in their daily lives.
All of the choreographers taking part this year have previously presented works at the festival, and will be using previously used locations, as well as some new ones, ranging from the coast opposite the Municipal Gardens and old ETKO factory, an abandoned house, Ayia Napa church, a Courtyard at the TEPAK library, Kit Kat Club, and the Athletic Center on the Seafront. The overall feel of the festival is casual and summery.
