Cyprus Events 2012

On Sunday 14th March  the annual Paphos Marathon event takes place. The event will consist of a 26 mile marathon, a half marathon, and a 10km fun run.

Petra tou Romiou (the legendary birthplace of Aphrodite, Goddess of love and beauty) is the starting point for the marathon, and the runners will head along the seafront road and through the town to the finishing point on the Pafos seafront at the Pafos Mediaeval Fort square.

The half marathon and the 10 km fun run will be an out and back course starting and finishing at the Pafos Mediaeval Fort Square nearby the Pafos fishing harbour. Do come along to cheer on and support the runners.

The start times are:

Marathon: 08:30

Half Marathon: 09:15

10km Fun Run: 09:30

A 5- hour time limit will be imposed on the marathon event and a 3-hour limit for the half marathon.

Also on the programme between 11.30am-12.30pm will be traditional Greek and Cypriot music and dances (Zorpas, Zeimbekiko tis Evdokias, Frangosiriani, Sousta, etc.) with the dance group Chorevtico Schima to Kastro.

Traditional music and dancing will continue after the marathon has finished,  and a number of fun activities for all the family will also be included.

The runner’s awards will be presented at a ceremony to be held in front of the Pafos Mediaeval Fort starting at 1pm, with all finishers receiving a unique commemorative medal, and a specially designed souvenir T-shirt. Marathon finishers will also receive an exclusive Race Certificate.
