The annual Limassol Flower Festival  2011 (Lemesos Anthestiria) will be held this weekend starting on Saturday 14th May with the official opening at 7pm. The event is held at the Potamos Yermasoyia parking place, which is opposite the Yermasoyia police station.

The opening will include entertainment including traditional Cypriot singing and dancing, as well as flower exhibitions, and a speciality market with traditional craftsmen displaying their work,  as well as a a coffee shop selling a range of drinks and traditional Cypriot food.

The Saturday event will close around 11pm, and will re-commence on Sunday 15th May at 10am, and will continue throughout the day until around 11pm. Do go along and enjoy the atmosphere and take a look at some of the beautiful plants and flowers that can be bought.

At 6pm on Sunday, everyone will start to gather along the seafront road from Apolonia Hotel up to the Yermasoyia police station to welcome the main event, the Flower Parade which is really worth watching.  Chariots decorated with flowers will move along the route transporting  people dressed in costumes, who throw flowers to the crowds.

The parade sets off around 6.30pm and lasts about an hour, after which everyone returns to the parking area for the flower exhibition and market, which will finish around 11pm. This is a great opportunity to experience authentic Cypriot culture, so do try to pop along and join in the fun.
