Every year Limassol hosts a wonderful flower festival to celebrate the coming of spring and the rebirth of nature. Anthestiria originates from the Greek word anthos, which means flower. This is an ancient Greek festivity, which still continues today in both Greece and Cyprus.

This year the Lemesos Anthestiria will take place at the Yermasoyia Parking Area (opposite the Germasogeia Police Station) and will commence at 7 pm on Saturday 8th May,  with the official opening by the Limassol District Officer.

After the official opening, there will be an hour of entertainment including traditional singing and dancing,  with the Yermasoyia Municipal Choir, and children from Limassol Schools. The festival will close around 11pm to recommence on Sunday.

During the 2-day Limassol Flower Festival event there will be traditional flower exhibitions and a speciality market with traditional craftsmen displaying their work. There will also be a childrens play area where they can also try painting and clay modelling activities, as well as a rest area with a coffee shop selling a range of drinks and traditional Cypriot food.

On Sunday 9th May, again at the Yermasoyia Parking Area, the speciality market and traditional flower exhibition will open at 10 am, and will continue throughout the day until 11 pm Sunday night.

At 6.30 pm on Sunday, is the main highlight of the Flower Festival, the flower parade, which is wonderful to watch, and includes chariots decorated with flowers, and lots of people dressed in costumes. The parade lasts an hour, and starts from the Appolonia Hotel, travelling up towards the Germasogeia Police Station. Flowers are handed out to the public during and after the parade. After the parade, all are welcome to attend the flower exhibition and market until 11pm.
