Cyprus Events 2012

Monday 13th June is a public bank holiday in Cyprus for Kataklysmos, which is otherwise known as the Festival of the Flood, or the Water Festival.

This is a great day to be in any of the seaside resorts of Cyprus, as all the major seaside towns will have a festival or fair taking place near the water, and in the water!  Kataklysmos celebrations will take place during the day in Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos, Ayia Napa, Protaras and many other seaside towns, usually near to the harbours. Check with your local municipality office to find out more details of events near you. 

The Cyprus Weather is currently perfect for a soaking, so I encourage you to go along to your nearest seaside town and indulge in some wet fun!

This is a religious holiday in Cyprus, with Kataklysmos meaning in the book of Genesis, and in the Greek Mythology of Deukalion ‘The destruction by flood of almost all living creatures, in order to give birth to a new and moral generation.

The celebrations will be similar in most towns, which will include folk dancing, singing, games, swimming competitions, boat races, and the throwing of water at each other.  A great way to stay cool in the Cyprus Sun, don’t forget your sun hat!
