Cyprus Events 2012

From Friday 7th October for 2 days there will be a Cyprus market with a difference.. This will be a vintage market, where you will have the opportunity to view and buy vintage fashion and houseware items.

The event has been organised by Anakyklos Perivallontiki, and will be held at the Gallery Akanthos which is opposite the old Municipal market of Nicosia.

If you buy any of the vintage items at this unique market in Nicosia, you will also be contributing to the great work that Anakyklos does in its textile recycling project.  The projects allows them to offer clothes to people in need, offer financial support to social welfare institutions, as well as run environmental protection and pollution reduction programs.

The textile recycling project which was piloted just over a year ago, is going from strength to strength and covers most of Cyprus, including 16 municipalities, and 30 local communities.

Part of the clothes that can be reused are offered free of charge to persons and families who cannot afford to buy clothes, at Anakyklos One, the charity shop of Anakyklos in old Nicosia. Those entitled to free clothes use coupons provided by local authorities, charities, NGOs and volunteers.

Another part of the textiles, including clothes, handicrafts and works of art made from recycled materials, are also available to the public at low prices to cover the cost of recycling. Sorting and distribution is also operated abroad, where textiles are exported, and the textiles that cannot be reused are recycled to produce wiping cloths, fibers for new clothes, insulation and other useful materials.

Saturday 8th October from 10am until 10pm
