Update 12th October

Unfortunately the Nicosia Marathon did not take place due to Cyprus Police not allowing the roads to be closed for more than 4 hours. We do not have any information as to why the organisors did not ensure that they had permission agreed with police long before the event took place. A somewhat disappointing premier of the Nicosia Marathon, however, it is hoped that next year’s event will be better organised.

Around 5000 people still took part in the half-marathon and 1000 meter charity events, and our congratulations go to Costas Poulios who won the half marathon with a time of 1:06:31, followed closely in second place by Jebel Kassahun, with a time of 1:06:36, and in third place was Khadiri Amine with a time of 1:12:15.

On Sunday 10th October the first ever Quantum Nicosia Marathon will take place, which is set to become an International annual sporting event in Cyprus, and most likely the greatest sporting event ever hosted in Nicosia.

The main marathon will be a 42km race, in addition, there will be a  21km half-marathon, as well as a  4.6 km road race,  and two 1000 meter charity runs, one of which is exclusively for primary school students.

The marathon and half-marathon will start at 8.30am, whilst the 4.6km road race will start at 10:30 am, with the two 1,000m charity runs starting at 11am.

The 1000 meter charity runs will set off along Salaminos Street, at the height of Kolokasis opening, whilst all the others start at Famagusta Gate, in front of the main entrance.

It will cost up to €20 to enter the marathon. Prize money will be given to the first three male and first three female finishers of the main race, and the first six male and female finishers of the half-marathon.

All other proceeds of the event will go to the philanthropic causes of Make a Wish, the Cyprus Anti-cancer Association and the Cyprus Telethon.

You can register for any of the events at the Registration Centre at Famagusta Gate on Friday 8^th October and Saturday 9^th October from 9am till 8pm.
