Germasogeia Limassol Flower Festival
At last spring is upon us, the Cyprus weather is hotting up by the day, and we are rapidly heading for Cyprus summer time!
But hold on, lets first enjoy the beautiful springtime, with an abundance of colours from the flora and fauna. One of the best ways to enjoy the beauty and ambient perfumes of Cyprus flowers is at the Limassol Flower Festival (Lemesos Anthestiria).
The ancient greeks can take the credit for the conception of this festival, as the idea was first born in the capital city of Athens. It was to celebrate the arrival of spring and the re-birth of nature, and as a way to respect Dionysus, the God of theatre and parties.
There will be a lot to offer visitors to Cyprus as well as the locals. The event is spread over the two days of Saturday 12th May and Sunday 13th May.
The Saturday opening starts at 7pm, whilst the main parade of chariots and flowers should not be missed, and will commence at 6.30 pm on Sunday, setting off from outside the Apollonia Hotel, and travelling along the Limassol seafront up to the Yermasoyia Police Station.
At the Yermasoyia parking place there will be a flower exhibition and market (opposite the police station) as well as childrens play area, craft exhibits, and an area offering traditional Cypriot foods and a range of drinks.
